RICHARD CRADDOCK grew up in Edinburgh and studied Architecture at Clare College, Cambridge. He worked in London with Chapman Taylor Partners before returning to Cambridge to the Cambridge practice of Bland, Brown & Cole, with whom he worked for seven years from 1985 to1992 on a wide range of projects covering the Cambridge colleges, university, social housing and work for private clients. The college work included a new court comprising multi-purpose hall/theatre and sports facilities for Queens' College, Cambridge. Social housing projects included a series of buildings for MENCAP and a mixed development of flats, nursery and group home for a housing association.
In 1992 he moved to Belgium, his wife's country of origin, and collaborated with the Belgian architectural practice, A.2R.C, on redevelopment of the site of the old military hospital in Brussels, in particular on the design of 253 units for social housing.
He has also worked with the architects, Beauvoir sa, on renovation and refurbishment projects within the city of Brussels. Among others, he prepared designs for the Place Saint-Géry, the large water tower in the Bois de la Cambre and a competition entry for the Palais du Vin.
In 1999 Richard was a founding member of iD Studio Architects .
In addition, he has worked as a graphic designer and has created compact disc covers for the classical music label, "Collegium Records", created by the British composer, John Rutter. He also designs logos such as that for the Finnish Cultural Centre in Antwerp, and often produces watercolour perspectives for architectural projects.
Richard is married to Dr Claire de Burbure de Wesembeek, and they have three children. He has varied interests including painting, music and cycling.
